On April 11, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited Asia Trafo, the largest transformer plant in Kazakhstan and one of the leading ones in Central Asia, located in Shymkent.
The plant specializes in the production of high-voltage oil-immersed power transformers and autotransformers (110, 220, 500 kV) with capacities up to 500 MVA, as well as shunt reactors for power transmission lines.
This is the first facility in Kazakhstan to manufacture such complex equipment, which was previously only imported.
The President toured the production site and met with engineers and young professionals. The founder of Alageum Electric Group, Saidulla Kozhabayev, presented the company’s achievements to the Head of State.
Why is Asia Trafo important for the country?
- Its products are supplied not only to the Kazakhstani market but also to CIS countries and Eastern Europe.
- The plant has a design capacity of over 12,000 MVA per year.
- Over the past five years, more than 5 billion tenge have been invested in research and development, including 3 billion from the company’s own funds.
- In 2023, the plant assembled the country’s first three-phase autotransformer with a capacity of 250,000 kVA (500 kV), weighing nearly 300 tons.
Asia Trafo is part of Alageum Electric Group, which unites transformer plants in four cities across Kazakhstan. These enterprises aim to fully meet domestic demand.
The Group also actively supports social projects: over the past three years, approximately 7 billion tenge have been allocated for charity, school construction, and aid to flood-affected regions.
